Ise - The most sacred shinto shrine of Japan

The grand shrine of Ise is Shinto's most sacred shrine. The shrine are rebuilt every 20 years to ensure that they remain pure. As the most sacred shrine of Japan, Ise (or Ise Jingu) is a place of pilgrimage for many shinto believers. Pictures taken in Ise, Japan in January 2004.
